Sydney Thunder Secure Rising All-Rounder Georgia Voll Until 2027

Sydney Thunder have locked in one of Australia’s most promising young talents, extending Georgia Voll’s contract through to the end of WBBL 13 — keeping the 20-year-old star at the club until 2027.

Voll made the move from Brisbane Heat ahead of WBBL 10, seeking more responsibility and a bigger role. Since joining, she has quickly become a key player for Thunder. Head coach Lisa Keightley said the extension is a massive boost, calling Voll “one of Australia’s brightest young talents.”

Across her WBBL career, Voll has scored 1274 runs in 68 innings at a strike rate of 116.24. She has also taken 12 wickets in 20 bowling innings with an impressive economy rate of 6.98, including career-best figures of 97* with the bat and 4/19 with the ball.

Her switch to Sydney in 2024 gave her the opportunity to open the innings regularly, especially alongside close friend Phoebe Litchfield. The move paid off immediately — standout knocks of 92 at North Sydney Oval and 97 at the MCG earned her a spot in Australia’s ODI squad last December.

Voll then enjoyed a dream international debut at Allan Border Field, scoring an unbeaten 46 before smashing her maiden ODI century. Throughout 2025, she featured across all three formats, making her T20I and Test debuts during the Ashes and being selected for the Women’s World Cup squads in India and Sri Lanka.

Her performances in global leagues have been just as impressive. In the WPL, she hammered 154 runs in just three matches for UP Warriorz, including a record-equaling 99*. She was also the first overall pick in The Hundred draft, joining Birmingham Phoenix ahead of several established senior players.

Although she hasn’t produced a big score yet this WBBL season, she has contributed with the ball, including taking two wickets against the Melbourne Renegades. Thunder, who have lost their opening two matches, will next face the Sydney Sixers at Drummoyne Oval.

Speaking about her contract extension, Voll said she is “very happy to be staying with Thunder” and praised Trent Copeland and Lisa Keightley for trusting her with a larger role. She added that despite a tough start, the squad is building something special and she hopes the upcoming Sydney Smash will kickstart their campaign.
