Meg Lanning Celebrates 100th WBBL Match with a Brilliant Unbeaten 90
Meg Lanning marked her 100th Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) match in classic style, producing a flawless unbeaten 90 that reminded everyone why she remains one of Australia’s most iconic batters. On a cool afternoon at Karen Rolton Oval in Adelaide, the 33-year-old star led from the front and powered the Melbourne Stars to a strong win over the Perth Scorchers on November 14, 2025.

Lanning’s masterful 90 off just 55 deliveries included 10 fours and 3 sixes, guiding the Stars to an impressive total of 173/4 in the eighth match of the WBBL 11 season. Her innings was a display of timing, experience, and match awareness — qualities that have defined her throughout her remarkable career.
Since making her WBBL debut back on December 5, 2015, against the Brisbane Heat, Lanning has been a central figure in the league’s evolution. Across 100 matches and 76 innings, she has scored 2,397 runs at an average of 38.66 and a strike rate of 119.90, including 24 half-centuries. Her previous best for the Stars — an unbeaten 97 against the Heat on Boxing Day 2016 — had already cemented her reputation as a big-game performer
In her milestone appearance, Scorchers captain Sophie Devine chose to bowl first, but Lanning quickly seized control. Her crisp drives and authoritative strokeplay dominated the middle overs, with her acceleration in the final stages proving crucial. When rain intervened and reduced Perth’s chase to 9 overs with a target of 95 under DLS, the Stars’ bowlers held firm, restricting the Scorchers to 78/8 and sealing a 16-run victory. Lanning deservedly earned the Player of the Match award.
Lanning’s WBBL journey includes a memorable stint with the Perth Scorchers as well. She joined them in 2018 and, across two seasons, scored 920 runs in 24 innings at an average of 43.80 and a strike rate of 125.68. Her highlights included nine fifties and a brilliant 101 off 67 balls on December 1, 2019, at Lilac Hill Park — an innings studded with 12 fours and 3 sixes.
Returning to the Melbourne Stars in 2020, Lanning once again became the backbone of the team’s batting order. Her vast experience, tactical sharpness, and consistency continue to define her legacy as she steps into the second decade of her WBBL career.
