Megan Schutt Becomes First Fast Bowler to Take 150 WBBL Wickets

Adelaide Strikers’ star pacer Megan Schutt has made WBBL history by becoming the first fast bowler to claim 150 wickets in the Women’s Big Bash League. The milestone came during the ninth match of the ongoing WBBL 11 season (2025) at Karen Rolton Oval, where Schutt’s consistent brilliance helped her team secure a 7-wicket victory.

At 32, Schutt has been a cornerstone of Adelaide’s bowling attack for over a decade. She debuted for the Strikers on December 12, 2015, against Hobart Hurricanes, immediately announcing her presence with figures of 4-1-8-3. Since then, she has delivered a masterclass in seam bowling, blending pace, accuracy, and tactical awareness that few in women’s cricket can match.

Over 138 innings, Schutt has taken 150 wickets at an average of 20.61 with an economy rate of 5.99—numbers that underline her consistency in a format that challenges even the best fast bowlers. Her career highlights include two four-wicket hauls, one five-wicket haul, and a standout 6-for-19 against Sydney Thunder in November 2022, a performance that won her the Player of the Match award.

Joining an elite group of WBBL bowlers—Jess Jonassen, Molly Strano, and Amanda-Jade Wellington—Schutt stands apart as the first pace bowler to reach this landmark, showing that speed combined with precision is just as vital in a league dominated by spinners. Her achievement reflects not only personal excellence but also the evolution of the WBBL from its early seasons to one of the world’s premier T20 competitions.

From Launceston to Adelaide, Megan Schutt’s journey is a testament to skill, endurance, and leadership. With 150 wickets to her name, she cements her place among the legends of the WBBL, inspiring the next generation of fast bowlers from South Australia and beyond.
